So how do you survive?
- Practice, practice and practice some more.
- Drive with your parent or another adult in different driving situations: at night, in different weather conditions, and on major highways, which are different than driving around town.
- Give the road your full attention, limit distractions. No cell phone, no drinking or eating, no loud music or “channel surfing”, and limit the number of passengers.
- Slow down; give yourself (and others) a chance and some “space”.
- Always wear a seat belt and make sure all your passengers do so as well. Don’t start the car unless they do!
- Never drink and drive or use illegal drugs! It’s a no-brainer. Don’t get in a car with someone who has. Remember many prescription and over-the-counter medications can make you drowsy…don’t drive when taking them.
- Enroll in a Defensive Driving Class .
